Stop the Brutal Slaughter of Yellowstone’s Wild Buffalo!

Help save Yellowstone's baby buffalo from the slaughterhouse.

Right now, wild buffalo are being rounded up in Yellowstone National Park and shipped to the slaughterhouse. In the spring, their baby calves will also be killed. Speak out now to put an immediate stop to this government-sponsored massacre.

Help NRDC shield Yellowstone's buffalo from slaughter in the weeks ahead.

Dear kristine,

Yellowstone’s wild, free-roaming buffalo herd is under siege.

The Bush Administration is turning America’s greatest national park into a killing ground for hundreds of mighty bison — better known as American buffalo.

We must speak out against this cold-blooded cruelty NOW — because every week, more of these noble creatures are being herded into cattle trucks to be slaughtered.

This winter alone, more than 1,000 wild bison have been brutally killed by the National Park Service and the Montana Department of Livestock — or shipped to slaughterhouses.

And come May, newborn calves are just as likely to be killed as their mothers.

We cannot stand by and let this massacre continue: Send a protest message now.

Right now, it’s still winter in Yellowstone, and these unsuspecting buffalo are following historic migratory routes in search of food at lower elevations where there is less snow.

When the buffalo venture near or beyond the park’s boundary, they will continue to be rounded up and killed — unless we start a national outcry.

What makes this sacrifice so senseless is that it’s all to protect 12 to 16 domestic cows and steers that graze near the park from the theoretical risk of a disease — brucellosis — that has never been transmitted from bison to cattle in a natural setting.

Yes, you read those numbers right: 1,000 wild bison slaughtered to protect a little more than a dozen cows outside the park that have most likely been vaccinated against the disease, or easily could be.

Please speak out and stop the slaughter. Yellowstone’s buffalo are a national treasure: America’s last, free-roaming herd. The National Park Service should be their guardian, not their executioner.

Our goal this week is to create a virtual “stampede” of 50,000 protest messages that will convince the National Park Service to call a halt to the killing.

Together, we must speak out to spare the lives of Yellowstone’s surviving buffalo so that they can again roam wild and free.

Sincerely,
Frances

Arctic Oil Rush

Polar Bear SOS Alert: Protect Alaska’s polar bears from toxic oil spills.

Say NO to Deadly Oil

Even a small amount of oil from a spill can kill polar bears and their cubs as they lick the toxic poison off their fur.

See how polar bears and their cubs groom themselves -- to see why oil spills are so toxic.

Help NRDC go to court to stop Big Oil’s invasion of polar bear habitat.

Dear kristine,A deadly new Arctic Oil Rush is underway.

And lethal oil spills are sure to follow – killing polar bears and other wildlife that get in the way.

We can’t afford to wait for disturbing photos of polar bears covered in oil before taking action — especially since these imperiled bears are already on the brink of extinction from global warming.

Please make a special emergency donation to NRDC today, so that we can take the Bush Administration to court immediately and block its plan for dangerous oil drilling in the heart of polar bear habitat.

Here’s what’s at stake:

Last month, in the biggest oil and gas sale in Alaska’s history, the Bush Administration sold a vast expanse of the Chukchi Sea — home to half our nation’s polar bears — to Shell and other oil giants.

Yet the Administration is still dragging its feet on protecting polar bears under the Endangered Species Act!

Coincidence? We don’t think so.

It’s part of a relentless drive by Big Oil and the Bush Administration to push through drilling in both of Alaska’s Polar Bear Seas — the Chukchi Sea and the Beaufort Sea — before the bear is safeguarded by federal law.

There is still time to block this potentially deadly drilling.

Your gift will allow NRDC to take the Bush Administration to federal court and cancel these new and hazardous Chukchi oil leases — before drilling begins and oil spills blanket the ice floes.

Even the Bush Administration’s own scientists estimate there’s more than a 50 percent chance of a large oil spill in the Chukchi Sea.

And if polar bears come into contact with that oil, there’s almost 100 percent certainty they will be poisoned and die.

That’s why we need your most generous help to fight back in court. Thanks to your past support, NRDC stopped Shell from drilling off the coast of the Arctic Refuge last summer. We can do it again. All we need is your help.

Please help us win this fight to save Alaska’s imperiled polar bears from this deadly new danger. Don’t let them be poisoned for the sake of Big Oil’s bottom line.

Let’s stop the drilling before it starts.

Sincerely,
Frances

Coming April 1st — Gayborhood.tv — a new video community designed
with the LGBT world in mind.

At Gayborhood.tv we see no reason why LGBT programming should be
limited to what comes out of our TV sets. So we got together and created
a place where people can watch shows about life in our communities —
shows that are reflections of ourselves — on a website that highlights each
and every colorful shade of our diverse rainbow. The people who work here
are our LGBT brothers and sisters, our straight allies, and just darn good
friends.  They’re always busy creating super fun original web series that
everyone can enjoy.

For a sneak peek at what’s ahead on Gayborhood.tv click here!

But wait there’s more!  Part of the site — called LGBTube — has been set
aside for user-generated content.  Gayborhood users can upload, view,
share and post their own video clips — because at Gayborhood.tv it’s all
about new ideas, new perspectives, and new information. LGBTube is
there just for you, so use it however you’d like.  Seriously, if you want
to upload a ten-minute video of your Uncle Ted singing “Puff The Magic
Dragon” in drag, go right ahead.  Share it with all of us on LGBTube at
Gayborhood.tv.

There you have it…Like most people we just want to be entertained.
Gay, straight, crazy, sane, red, white or blue, there’s something here
for everyone.

So welcome to the Gayborhood — where it’s always a beautiful day!
